All major studios have movies they wish they could forget. Actually, they would like the public to forget that they have released them. For Universal, “47 Ronin” is one of those failures, critically and box-office wise.

Yet, the latest marketing pieces for “Seventh Son” (in theaters Feb. 6) follow a style similar to Keanu Reeves’ vehicle. Both movies share enough similarities already (CGI-heavy fantasies, delayed multiple times) to make the connection even stronger in people’s minds.

I actually enjoyed “47 Ronin” as a guilty pleasure and I have hopes for the upcoming Legendary production, but if you are going to release something like this in February (a week before the also postponed “Jupiter Ascending”) you should conjure a magical marketing campaign.
