After the impressive little film “Monsters” the career of Scoot McNairy sky-rocketed. He had the very unusual privilege of having supporting roles in two consecutive Best Picture Winners: “12 Years a Slave” and “Argo.”

In “Non-Stop” (on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital now) he plays Tom Bowen, one of the suspects that Liam Neeson’s character has to deal with in the mysterious action-thriller.

McNairy talked to Desde Hollywood via telephone and here is the exclusive interview.

Congratulations for your career. I guess that you have the best agent in the world, right?

Yes, I do. I work with talented people so I feel very blessed.

Do you enjoy the freedom that character actors have in a supporting capacity, or you look forward to do more leading roles?

I always try to serve the story. Projects come your way and sometimes are for leading roles and sometimes they are not. It is all part of the auditioning process of an actor.

The Director of “Non-Stop” told me that the script wasn’t finished when production started. How much did you know about the story at the beginning?

I knew about my character’s motivation. That is something that Jaume and the writers spent a lot of time with. He is a very talented and specific filmmaker so when he started shooting everything was very clear to him.

How was for you filming these very precise scenes with a lot of extras in confined spaces?

We planned the scenes. Spending so much time on the set with all these people really benefited the movie.

How was being in a fight with the biggest action star in the world right now, Mr. Liam Neeson?

It was awesome! He is a legend. An incredible guy, very down to Earth. I learned many things and had a lot of fun being around him.

Neeson had previously worked with Jaume and Julianne Moore. Did you feel a family-like atmosphere when you arrived to the set?

For sure. They are extremely nice people and work very well together. I hope that they make more movies.

How was working with Lupita Nyong’o in “Non-Stop” and then seeing much more of her talent in “12 Years as Slave”?

She is one of the best actresses of our generation. She is really talented, sweet and smart. She deserves all the good things that have happened to her recently.

Gareth Edwards is one of the hottest director now after “Godzilla.” You guys did “Monsters” together so I guess that he has to put you in his “Star Wars” movie. Right?

Maybe, maybe not. I am just happy for Gareth. We have seen just the tip of the iceberg of what this guy can actually do. He is a creative genius. I am sure we will work again in the future, but that remains to be seen.

“Non-Stop” is avalible on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital now.
