With huge blockbusters and even an animated movie under his belt, one would think that Gore Verbinski embraces special effects. But the director of The Lone Ranger (out July 3) seems to prefer shooting on location, rather than using blue screens inside sound stages.

Or maybe he just enjoys torturing poor Armie Hammer. Take a look at these two behind the scenes featurettes, with the actor learning how to be a cowboy and overcome vertigo on top of “The Spirit Platform”.

“Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice–taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.”

Gore Verbinski directs Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter.
