The Hollywood Reporter published a list of actors that according to their sources may be considered to play the new Batman in Man of Steel 2. Here is my take on the probability of these talents becoming the new Dark Knight.

The most distracting thing in Pacific Rim was Max Martini. He looks so similar to Lance Armstrong that I don’t understand how he hasn’t been cast to play the cyclist in the upcoming biography. His name is the strangest one and the less probably in this list.

Despite being labeled as the frontrunner I am sure Josh Brolin won’t be Batman. At 45 he would be 15 years older than Christian Bale when the British actor put on the cape for the first time. Man of Steel 2 won’t be a stand alone tale like Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Returns’, but the beginning of a long term cinematic venture, including Justice League and Batman trilogies.

Ryan Gosling is in every director and studio’s shortlist to play any role matching his age. But according to some statements in the past, I don’t believe he is interested in singing a 6-movie deal -a la Marvel- to play a super hero. Bale was a similar type of artist Before Batman Begins, but he had already starred in an action sci-fi movie like Equilibrium and in front was Christopher Nolan as the director, proposing only three films.

Warner has trusted Richard Armitage with one of the main roles in The Hobbit trilogy. Being an unknown to the general public makes sense for a role like Superman, but Batman may require a more familiar face. He is a little bit younger than Brolin, but 5 years older than Joe Manganiello and Matthew Goode.

Both were really close to get Henrly Cavill’s suit in Man of Steel. The True Blood actor has the physique to be a warrior Batman, but Goode (directed by Snyder in Watchmen) exudes Bruce Wayne’s sophistication.

They would be good choices, but my personal favorite remains Benedict Cumberbatch. My reasons in an upcoming post. What do you think?
