StarwarsEpisodeVII-DominicMonaghan-DesdeHollywood-com

Last Saturday I was conducting interviews at the red carpet of The Lone Ranger premiere. When I saw Dominic Monaghan getting closer I started thinking about a couple questions for him.

I suddenly realized that the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII was the perfect topic: he is a big fan of the original trilogy, he was part of another beloved saga like The Lord of the Rings, he had worked with J.J. Abrams, and we were literally standing on Disney territory (California Adventure Park).

After laughing for a couple minutes with a colleague next to me, his publicist appeared to take him away. Instead of a long question I decided to throw something quick and potentially amusing:

DesdeH.com: Are you going to be in Star Wars? …Yes!

I was expecting a comedic response like, I don’t know, “Of course. I am Yoda’s grandson!”. But instead, Monaghan suddenly got serious and cautious:

Monaghan: “Well, I can’t answer that question. Ask J.J. Abrams. He’ll know.”

This is what he told HuffPost Live about the influence Star Wars had on his life:

It is possible that he was just messing with me. But why would he do that? To make a reporter that he doesn’t know suspicious about something that hasn’t been even rumored yet? To show a sophisticated sense of humor?

His change of tone and diplomatic answer make me think that Monaghan is either going through an audition process, in talks, or has been already cast to play a role in Episode VII. What do you think?

I will definitely follow his advice the next time I run into the acclaimed filmmaker. How hard can it be to get J.J. Abrams to reveal a secret anyway?
