The hack that Sony Pictures suffered seems to reveal that the studio and Marvel were in serious talks to share Spider-Man, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The report says that Disney wanted to include the arachnid superhero in Captain America: Civil War, making a closer adaptation to the beloved comicbook storyline.

But more intriguing than that is the mention of a potential Spider-Man trilogy produced by Marvel with Sony retaining “creative control, marketing and distribution.”

Somebody please explain how that one would work because I don’t see why Marvel would put their reputation in danger producing something without final saying, and why Sony would be interested in sharing their profits in that scenario.

The outlet ends up by referring to the projects that Sony would be materializing in the short term: The Spider-Man spin-offs “Sinister Six,” “Venom,” a movie centered on the female characters, plus an animated Spider-Man comedy from “The Lego Movie” creators Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
