At the Marvel Studios Phase 3 announcement, a few weeks ago, one question remained unanswered, “Who will play the Sorcerer Supreme?” President Kevin Feige said that they couldn’t confirm the casting yet and it wasn’t until today -many weeks later- that the most rumored name was finally announced.

British actor Benedict Cumberbatch will play DOCTOR STRANGE, a movie that will take the Marvel Cinematic Universe into an unexplored mystical territory. This is what Feige said about the talented actor:

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Cumberbatch is a great addition to the MCU, I personally thought that he could have been a good choice to play Batman. He has the rare quality of being able to interpret compelling heroes and villains, adding a touch of darkness to more complex superhero characters.

Here is synopsis for the movie:

The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

DOCTOR STRANGE will open in theaters on November 4, 2016.
