Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto is one of the most respected Latinos in Hollywood today. The Mexican has worked behind the camera in films like Babel, Alexander, Brokeback Mountain (earning an Academy Award Nomination), and the upcoming The Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Scorsese.

The latest wave of praise for his craft came because of Argo. The director of that Best Picture Oscar Winner has been on the news a lot lately, in case you haven’t noticed. So Tuesday night, at the ‘Viva Figueroa’ event inside The Academy headquarters, I asked him about Ben Affleck becoming the new Batman.

What was your first reaction when you heard the news?

I found it funny. In fact, I sent him an email saying that he would be the first friend of mine that wears a rubber suit. He laughed and said that the reason why he was doing it was to wear a rubber suit. We were joking. I admire him and I wish him the best. I am sure he will do a great job.

Would you consider working in a super hero movie like that?

Well, a lot of the films that I have worked on are Naturalistic. I like that a lot. But I am really interested in doing fantasy or science fiction. Why not a super hero film? That could be, too.

I personally believe that is logistically impossible that Affleck could direct a Batman film. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Prieto was brought on board by Warner Bros., after such a successful collaboration. The question is if they would go for a look even more “realistic” than Christopher Nolan’s version.

What do you think?
