You have seen him in big and small Hollywood movies like “Wrath of Titans,” “Carlos,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Domino,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” This year, the 37 years-old Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramirez stars in the historic epic “The Liberator” (in theaters October 3) playing revolutionary hero Simon Bolivar, and in the small budget horror flick “Deliver Us From Evil” alongside Eric Bana.

I had the pleasure of seating down with Ramirez to speak about “Libertador” and that interview will be published soon. He mentioned his current projects but when the “Point Break” came up he just couldn’t hide his excitement for playing Patrick Swayze’s character in the upcoming remake of the 80’s classic.

As you know, Gerard Butler surprisingly dropped out after being attached for months as the new Bodhi, giving the rising Latino star the opportunity he has waiting for his entire life. Watch the exclusive video and read his statement below.

“Now I will realize my teenage fantasy: doing the “Point Break” remake. That’s a cult movie for an entire generation. It’s very funny because some people may think that I am just taking this opportunity but no, I have always dreamt, vaguely, desperately, that if some day a remake was done I would play Bodhi.

But it is such a Californian movie that I never thought I could be the first option, or an option to play him and look how it ended up in my hands. I will play him in the remake. It obviously is a different story. It keeps some structural elements from the first one but it is different. It has a different level of sophistication, and happens in a different era. But it maintains the rebellious, anti-system spirit of the first one.

I am coming from doing “Carlos” and “The Liberator” so everything that smells subversive grabs my attention. I am the biggest “Point Break” fan so I want to protect its legacy and make the best possible movie.”

Luke Bracey (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) will play Johnny Utah and Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) and Ray Winstone are also part of the cast directed by Ericson Core (The Fast and the Furious). “Point Break” will hit theaters Aug. 7, 2015.
