Even die-hard Christopher Nolan fans will admit that fight choreography isn’t the director’s strongest suit. In a recent interview with with a newspaper in his own country, Argentinian stunt double and fight choreographer Guillermo Grispo (300, Sucker Punch) talks about how the anticipated confrontation between the Dark Knight and the Kryptonian in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will mark a departure from any previous incarnation of the character.

I can’t say much, but there is no surprise if I say that Batman and Superman confront each other in the film. It is one of the most important sequences and I was actively involved in the design of the fight: the crossing of punches and the physical movements were put together by me and my partner Ryan Watson. One may think that Batman has no chance, that the other one will crush him like a bug. But when you see the movie you see how things fall into place, there is a very intelligent explanation behind what may seem like an entirely disadvantageous confrontation to Batman.

Now Batman will fight the way I always dreamed to see him fight … It’s a character so prepared in the combat arts that you can do many things with him, but that side of him is usually wasted. Even in the past Nolan films, the action scenes aren’t that good, both from the technical martial point of view and the choreography. They way they are shot, bad camera movements… Don’t get me wrong, Nolan is an excellent filmmaker, I tip my hat to him, he makes fascinating stories. But I think he does not devote the necessary time to a fight, to how the punches and kicks should be. Those are the details that Zack, being such a physical guy, loves to prepare. So I think that there is going to be a noticeable contrast when people see Batman’s fights, compared to the what came before.

We will be able judge this clash of titans when “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” blasts into theaters on March 25, 2016.
